The Lure of the Labrador Wild Book

We had to read this book in high school, what torture! I think I was the only one in the class who read it through, most of my friends admitted that they didn't read it. It was so boring, I was just waiting for the main character to finish eating his boot leather and die already. At least then it would be over.

Eaton's Winter Catalogue, 1975

The Eaton's catalogue was very popular in our house, we'd look forward to browsing through the Winter, Summer and Christmas catalogues.

Trees of Newfoundland

We owned this book, Native Trees of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Jewelry Holder

My older sister had a jewelry holder shaped like a ladder with a poodle on top very similar to this.......at least I think there was a poodle on top. I don't think I could make up something that odd! Hers did not have a red tray on it though.

Reader's Digest

My parents subscribed to 2 magazines, Reader's Digest and National Geographic. You can get tons of back issues of those on eBay. I remember this old style of Reader's Digest and was actually disappointed when they changed the look of the cover.

Hammer Pen

One year Dad got us all hammer pens from a local business and put them in our Christmas stockings. For 7 and 8 year old kids this was a big deal!

Pincushions

My mother had pincushions like this, I bet everyone's mother did.

Canadian Scout Handbook

Both of my brothers were in Scouts, one of them had this book.

Donald Duck Viewmaster Reels

My younger brother, sister and I each had our own viewmasters and reels. My younger sister owned these.

Newfie Joke Book

We had a couple of these around the house, my younger brother seemed to like them more than the rest of us.

Graduation Figurines

My oldest sister had a girl graduate figurine on her high school graduation cake, as you can see in this very poor photo from the mid 70's.

Whales Salt & Pepper Set

Another set of salt and pepper from Mom's collection, another set that was never used.

Red "Thumbprint" Cake Stand

Mom had thumbprint dishes and a few serving pieces like this cake stand. It was mostly used at Christmas but I am sure a few birthday cakes were served on it as well.

Newfoundland Commemorative Cookbook

This cookbook was put out in 1974 to celebrate 25 years of confederation. Mom and Dad bought one for each of us. It was filled with traditional Newfoundland recipes and Mom used it often.

Newfoundland Penny

I remember seeing a couple of these when I was a kid. No, I am not that old, but Mom and Dad must have had a couple. Newfoundland had its own currency before it joined Canada in 1949.

I Chose Canada Book (by Joey Smallwood)

My father gave this to my older sister one year for Christmas. I am not sure if she read it, I know I didn't, I was too young to be interested in politics at the time (I'm not really interested in it now either).

The Fonz Badge

We had a badge just like this, I guess it was my younger brother's since he collected badges. Who didn't like The Fonz back then? It was one of my favourite tv shows.

Native Trees of Canada Book

I vaguely remember this book. I don't know if we owned it or if I saw it at the library.

Edit: My older sister told me that she owned this book, she won it for writing an essay in grade 8. And she still has the book today.

Swatch Watch

These were popular in the 80's, I had one very similar to this, but it was all pink.

Chip & Dip Set

We had a chip and dip set like this but I don't think it was green. It was probably harvest gold or clear. I really liked it and we used it a lot.
