Like most Newfoundlander's, the Herald was a common fixture in our home. It was/is a tv guide and entertainment magazine. These are from the late 70's and early 80's. They started out with drawings on the cover and then changed to pictures.
One of my fondest memories is sleeping out in the camper in the summer with my sister and friend from down the street. We would pop popcorn, listen to the radio and read my older sister's Teen magazines. These Teen magazines are from 1975, around the time we were doing this.
My parents subscribed to National Geographic magazines for years and years. I loved looking at the photos but rarely read the articles. I remember wanting to cut some of the pictures out for a school project in junior high and my parents wouldn't let me. I was upset at the time but I can understand now why they didn't let me. I remember some of the covers, especially the ones with holograms on them.
My parents subscribed to 2 magazines, Reader's Digest and National Geographic. You can get tons of back issues of those on eBay. I remember this old style of Reader's Digest and was actually disappointed when they changed the look of the cover.
When I was in grade 2 I had a subscription to Highlights Magazine. What a thrill to get mail every month, then read about "Goofus & Gallant", "The Timbertoes Family" and find the hidden pictures.
