Cake Decorator

Mom had an aluminum cake decorator like this one. It was used often to decorate birthday cakes and my favourite memory is that Mom would give us the bowl of leftover icing and we would use the decorator to squirt it onto crackers and eat it......so good!

Bowling Cake Decorations

One year my brother had a bowling cake with a little man, bowling ball and pins on top. I guess my aunt who lived next door made the cake since she made most of our cakes when we were growing up. She was an excellent cake decorater. You can see the decorations on my brother's cake in the photo, as well as our fabulous harvest gold melamine dishes........ah, the 70's!

Graduation Figurines

My oldest sister had a girl graduate figurine on her high school graduation cake, as you can see in this very poor photo from the mid 70's.

Doll Cakes

My aunt (who lived next door) made cakes of all kinds. Growing up we always had a special cake for our birthday. She also made wedding cakes. When her daughter got married each bridesmaid had a cake that looked like her in front of them at the head table. The pans and doll bodies are for sale on eBay, I'm showing a photo from the 70's to show the cakes my aunt made (my 2 older sisters were bridesmaids at my cousin's wedding, these are their cakes).

Wilton Cake Books

My aunt who lived next door made and decorated beautiful cakes. She had a lot of Wilton cake books and my sister and I loved to look at all the cakes in it. My aunt's cakes and sugar houses won prizes at the fall fair and growing up we always had a special birthday cake thanks to her, in shapes like a butterfly, hot air balloon, telephone, wishing well, angel, snowman, and many more wonderful designs.

Birthday Candle Train

This was always in the "junk drawer" in the kitchen in its original box. It was used when we were really young. I'm including a photo of my youngest brother on his 1st birthday. It's a fuzzy photo but you can just make out the birthday candle train on his sailboat cake.
