Christmas Tree Topper

We had a tree top similar to this one as you can see in the photo of our very sad looking Christmas tree from the late 60's.

Bucket of Christmas Candy

I am too young to remember this candy but apparently every year my older brother and sisters would get a big bucket of candy each for Christmas. That tradition must have been stopped when I got older because I don't remember getting a bucket of candy. The can was for sale on eBay (empty) and you can see a bucket in this old Christmas photo, taken in 1967. I am the sad looking girl looking down at my younger sister.

Yellow Tumblers

We had yellow tumblers like these to match our yellow (harvest gold to be exact) melamine dishes. Ah the 70's!

Metal Picnic Basket

I don't remember this, I was too young (that's me on Mom's lap).

Purple Bedspread

This bedspread was for sale on eBay. They didn't show much of it but it looks like the bedspread that was in my and my sister's bedroom. Here she is sitting on her bed, this was probably shortly after the new bedspreads and curtains were bought. And purple carpet to match! Taken in the 70's.

Newfoundland License Plate

1966 was Come Home Year in Newfoundland and also the year I was born. These license plates celebrated that (Come Home Year, not my birth). In the first photo you can just barely make out the words on the license plate, that's my 2 older sisters standing in front of the car.

Brownie Camera

My mother had a Brownie camera long before I was born, you can barely see it in the photo that she took of herself in the mirror. I remember playing with it when I was small, by that time it had no flash and was never used only as a toy.

Record Player

We had an old record player a lot like this one. It was an RCA, I remember the classic picture of a dog sitting next to a gramophone on the inside cover. My parents kept it in the living room as a piece of furniture even though we did not listen to records or the radio very often.....usually only at Christmas. It's featured in a lot of photos, it was one of the best places to get a birthday photo done. That's me on my 2nd birthday.

Moose Rug

We had a moose rug like this one on our living room wall. It was there for years until we got another one, of a bear (I blogged about it here already). That's my older sister in the photo, it was obviously her birthday, and what better place to take a birthday portrait than in front of the moose rug?

Lawn Chairs

These were the kind of lawn chairs we had growing up. We had 2 like the first 2, with yellow webbing. The frame was aluminum. My aunt next door had the lounge chair. I always wished we had one as well.

Angel Fish

We had 2 angelfish like this one on our living room wall. They were made of plaster, I think collectors call it chalkware. Why you would want to collect these is beyond me. Dad must have painted ours, in the early 70's they were pink and gold and later on they were yellow and grey, as you can see in the photos. Fortunately they disappeared forever in the 80's.

Bear Wall Rug

This was the 2nd wall rug we owned, before this we had one with 2 moose on it. I think my cousin gave us this one, I vaguely remember him saying he didn't like the moose one (I think he said it was too small for the wall). Of course looking back I think they were both tacky, but it was the 70's! Actually I think this photo was taken in the early 80's. It must have been Mom's birthday.

Pressure Cooker

Mom had a pressure cooker like this (although hers didn't have any designs on the cover). And like all kitchen things of the 70's, it was harvest gold. She didn't use it much at home but when we went on holidays in the camper she used it to make cooked dinner. Heaven forbid she stop cooking on vacation. And look at this, photographic proof that the pressure cooker existed and was used on vacation. I'm not sure where this photo was taken (maybe Twillingate) but that's my Dad in the background and my younger brother on the picnic table with the pressure cooker. And if you look really closely you can see an iceberg way off in the distance to the left of the rocky island.

Bowling Cake Decorations

One year my brother had a bowling cake with a little man, bowling ball and pins on top. I guess my aunt who lived next door made the cake since she made most of our cakes when we were growing up. She was an excellent cake decorater. You can see the decorations on my brother's cake in the photo, as well as our fabulous harvest gold melamine dishes........ah, the 70's!

Bugs Bunny Pillow

My brother got a Bugs Bunny pillow like this one year for his birthday, I think my aunt gave it to him. I found the panel on eBay, basically you cut it out, stuff it and sew it up. You can see him holding it in the photo which was taken sometime in the late 70's.

Butterfly Frame

My aunt gave me a plastic butterfly picture frame very similar to this one when I was in grade 8. You can see it in my birthday photo.

Luggage

My 2 older sisters had luggage sets like these, as you can see in the photo (they're going away to university and my parents took a photo of all of us out on the front bridge/step with our luggage when we went away to university).

Bronzed Baby Shoes Bookends

We had bookends just like these. Dad got our baby boots bronzed, I am not sure if he did them himself or sent them away to be done. The bookends were used on our bookcase with our encyclopedias, as you can see in the photo. The photo is of my youngest brother on his first day of kindergarten, I think that was 1974.

Fishing Creel

My father owned a wicker creel like this one, as you can see in the photo. In the photo are my father, older brother and sister. As you can see they did not get very big fish! I guess this photo was taken in the mid 70's.

Elsie the Cow

I don't remember this stuffed toy but my older sister does. It was hers and you can see it in her crib in the photo. Apparently it came in different colours and the head was plastic. Looks a little creepy to me, sis!
