Salt & Pepper

Another set of salt and pepper that Mom owned. We always wanted to take these down off the shelf and turn them over because they made a noise, sort of like a squeaky cow or sheep noise.

Squirrel Pencil Sharpener

I think this was my younger brother's. I don't know why I remember it but I do!

Operation Game

This was my younger brother's game, my sister and I gave it to him one year for Christmas. You can still buy this game today, I guess some toys stand the test of time.

Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales Book

This was my book. I only remember one of the fairy tales in it, Thumbelina.

Totor et Tristan French textbook

I think my older sister used this French book in elementary school. It was around the house with the rest of our books but I didn't use it in school.

Beehive Measuring Cups

My aunt owned these and I saw them often in her cupboard. I thought the little stack looked so cute but I never knew they were measuring cups until one day I asked her what it was.

Star Salt & Pepper Shakers

Mom owned a few of these, some she used as salt and pepper shakers and some she used as candle holders (simply take off the top and it made a perfectly good candle holder). I think she used them only at Christmas.

Jokes and Riddles Book

This was my book, it had a joke or 2 on each page with drawings. I still remember many of them!

How did the farmer raise strawberries?

With a spoon.

Why did the girl brush her hair before going to bed?
Because she wanted to make a good impression on the pillow.

(I remember not understanding this one and I asked my older sister what it meant and she said I was too young to understand)

Emergency View Master Reels

These view master reels were my brothers. I think they showed a few scenes from some of the tv episodes. We also liked watching the show.

Mastermind

This was my younger sister's game. It was actually Mini Mastermind, I guess a travel version of the game. I have never seen the regualr version. We played it a lot, it was fun and made you think and use logic.

Scrabble

Scrabble, one of my favourite games. I remember lying on the couch with the chicken pox playing Scrabble with Mom when I was in grade 5. She let me use words like 'IQ' to get rid of my 'Q'. We memorized the backs of the tiles and could always spot the blank.......we were sneaky like that.

Zippy the Chimp Book

My brother got this book one year for his birthday, as you can see by the photo. According to the number on the cake my brother turned 4, that was in 1973 (and I remember that the snowmobile on his cake was a wind-up toy). Ah, the good old days when a little golden book was a perfectly good birthday gift.

Adding Machine

My parents owned this and my father used it on occasion, I would say when he was doing up his taxes. It was kept in their bedroom closet and had a plastic cover. We would play with it if Dad had it down, but not with paper in it (that would be a waste!). This was as high-tech as it got at our house in the 1970's.

Battleship Game

My brother owned this game, we played it often. I still remember the line from the commerical: "You sank my battleship!".

Six Million Dollar Man

My brother had this plastic drinking glass (we called them tumblers) with the Six Million Dollar Man on it. I remember watching that show on tv. Funny how it was only my younger brother who had the special mugs and tumblers. Can you say spoiled?

The Family Nobody Wanted

I read this book a few times when I was growing up and even did a book report on it in grade 7. It was based on a true story of a family who adopted unwanted children......almost a dozen of them.

Boy & Girl Salt & Pepper Set

This was another set of salt and pepper shakers Mom had in her collection. I would say these were pretty old, probably bought in the 50's.

Pippi Longstocking Books

I remember reading these when I was in elementary school. I owned the first book and the other two I borrowed from the library. But I can't remember a single thing about the books which is odd because I remember a lot of books I read as a kid.

Ziggy Bulletin Board

Bulletin boards were popular when I was a teenager. My sister owned this one.

The Bobbsey Twins

The Bobbsey Twins books were among my favourite books when I was growing up. My sister owned the first book and my cousin owned several of the others, she lived next door and I would often read her books.

Bride Cutouts

My older sister owned these cutouts and my younger sister and I were allowed to play with them sometimes. I loved them, their clothes seemed so fancy!

Happy Days Book

I never read this book but it was in my brother's room with the rest of his books.

TV books

My older brother and sisters owned these books, I think they ordered them from school. I loved reading them and looking at the pictures of my favourite tv programs.

Salt & Pepper

This was another salt and pepper set in Mom's collection.

Piggy Bank

I don't remember who owned this piggy bank, probably my younger brother. I don't even think it was used because I seem to recall that there was no stopper in the bottom.

Teapot

Every meal Mom would make a pot of tea in a teapot like this. I remember her telling me it was actually a coffee perculator but she had removed the middle section and just used it for steeping tea. It was always on the stove.

Wide World Game

This was my aunt's and we would go next door to play it with her. Her box wasn't red but I believe the rest of the details are the same. The playing pieces were little planes and you had to go to different countries and collect product cards. But you had to be careful not to get caught in the weather.

Daisy Mug

This was my sister's mug. I'm not sure but hers might have had yellow accents instead of green.

Skating Girl Perfume Bottle

This was my sister's and since we shared a bedroom it was on our dresser. The skirt part was flocked material and it was a really nice bottle. My older sister's boyfriend gave it to her one Christmas.

Tintin Books

My brother used to borrow Tintin books from the library all the time. I used to read them too, I wasn't that interested in them but I read everything when I was growing up. I remember these two covers.

Dominoes

My sister owned these wooden dominoes in a wooden case. I don't remember playing with them a lot, maybe we didn't know the rules.

Punchbowl

Mom had lots of dishes like this, it was called a "thumbprint" pattern. She had plates, cups & saucers, a cake stand and this punchbowl. It was kept in the china cabinet and used mainly at Christmas

Bert's Hall of Great Inventions (Little Golden Book)

This was my younger brother's and I remember some of the inventions. Bert would show Ernie a great invention and Ernie would tell him it already existed (in nature, such as an armadillo having a built in "suit of armour" or a cow having a fly swatter - his tail). Why can I remember a story book from my childhood but I can't remember what I need at the grocery store?

Donna Parker Books

My older sister had these 2 Donna Parker books and of course I read them several times. I remember the story line of "Mystery at Arawak" but not the other one. Donna Parker was sort of like Nancy Drew.

Holly Hobbie Puzzle

I was in junior high school when I got this for Christmas one year. I doubt teenagers would be satisfied with a jigsaw puzzle these days but I liked it.

Birthday Card

I think my younger brother got this card for his birthday one year, it was big (about 8x10) and my Aunt Lucy probably gave it to him. I remember getting a big card from her one year as well. I think for a while this was on the wall in his bedroom.

Tea Bag Holders

Mom kept these in the cupboard above the fridge but they were only used when we had company. They had writing on them saying "I will hold the teabag". I think we could have figured out what they were for even without the words.

The Cub Book

Both of my brothers were boy scouts, this book was on the closet shelf in their bedroom and we liked reading it. I think we read everything in the house, including the encyclopedias and the dictionary.
