Busy Bee Card Game

I vaguely remember having a card game with a bee on the front, much like this, when I was in grade 2. I think it was a math game.

Old Maid Card Game

My aunt lived next door and when my brothers and sisters and I were growing up we'd always go to her house and play games. She had this Old Maid card game, or one a lot like it. We must have played it hundreds of times.

Rook Card Game

I remember playing this game with my older brother and sisters but I don't remember any of the rules.

Pin the Tail on the Donkey

I haven't seen this game in ages, but I suppose they still make it. This was the version I played at many birthday parties when I was a child.

Don't Break the Ice Game

Another game I didn't own but my friend did. I remember playing it with her. They still make this today, I wonder is the quality as good?

Don't Spill the Beans Game

You can still buy this game today but it's not the same. My friend up the street had this game when I was growing up and I remember playing it with her. The beans back then were real dried kidney beans, I distinctly remember eating one of them, just to see what it tasted like. The beans now are plastic. The original game is for sale on eBay.

Croquet Set

We had a croquet set very similar to this one (ours had hard concrete type balls instead of wooden ones). We'd set it up in the side garden and play with our friends, it was a lot of fun.

Buckaroo Game

For the record, I did not have this game. I also did not have a Lite-Brite or Easy Bake Oven or a real Barbie doll or a mood ring or dozens of other cool toys all my friends seemed to have. But I'm not bitter. I remember playing this at a friend's house in Kettle Cove when we were on vacation one summer.

Oh Canada Game

When I was in elementary school every student got one of these games. It was a French-English game that came with a record and a comic book. The comic book told the story of some people who won a lotto ticket and had a magic vehicle that took them on a journey across Canada. The vehicle could fly, go on roads and under water. The record had songs in English and French. I really enjoyed the game and story.

Rocket Hockey

My younger brother got this one year for Christmas. It was a lot of fun. You put the metal "puck" on the side and cranked the handle. Then it went flying out onto the game surface and you had to slide your goal keeper back and forth to prevent it from scoring on your side. Here is a picture of my father and sister playing it, this was in the early 80's.

Hang On Harvey Game

I never owned this game, my cousin who lived in another town had it and I only played it a few times. I wanted it and probably asked for it for Christmas but I never got it. I also never had a Lite Brite, a real Barbie Doll, Easy Bake Oven, the Game of Life or a ton of other cool toys that my friends had. I'm not bitter.

Spill and Spell

This was my sister's game but I think I liked it more than she did.

Snakes & Ladders Game

I owned a Snakes & Ladders game just like this when I was small. These days they call it "Chutes and Ladders", I guess snakes aren't appealing to kids. We never saw anything wrong with it.

Sorry Game

This was my sister's game, my older brother brought it back to her when he visited the US with my aunt and uncle. I think you can still buy this game today, I guess some games are timeless.

Password Game

My sister owned this game. You had to get other people to guess your word. The cool thing we liked about this game was the way the words were hidden and would only appear if they were placed in the special holders with red plastic windows (hey, this was before computers and video games, small things amused us!). I think this game was based on a tv show but since we didn't have cable tv growing up we never saw it.

Time Board Game

I remember playing this as a teenager, my older sister probably owned it. I think it came out during the 80's, probably after Trivial Pursuit came out. It seems there were a lot of trivia games on the go then. I remember the questions in this game as being a bit difficult, and I was usually good at trivia.

Operation Game

This was my younger brother's game, my sister and I gave it to him one year for Christmas. You can still buy this game today, I guess some toys stand the test of time.

Mastermind

This was my younger sister's game. It was actually Mini Mastermind, I guess a travel version of the game. I have never seen the regualr version. We played it a lot, it was fun and made you think and use logic.

Scrabble

Scrabble, one of my favourite games. I remember lying on the couch with the chicken pox playing Scrabble with Mom when I was in grade 5. She let me use words like 'IQ' to get rid of my 'Q'. We memorized the backs of the tiles and could always spot the blank.......we were sneaky like that.

Battleship Game

My brother owned this game, we played it often. I still remember the line from the commerical: "You sank my battleship!".
