Step Stool/Chair

We had a chair like this. It was like a chair but with 2 steps that folded in under the chair when not in use. We just called it a stool, I think, and was used often by us kids to get things on high shelves.

Lemon Tea Set

Mom had this tea set and it was so cute! I never remember her using it but it was in the china cabinet so I saw it every day. I think my sister has it now and she probably doesn't use it either.

Teen Magazines

One of my fondest memories is sleeping out in the camper in the summer with my sister and friend from down the street. We would pop popcorn, listen to the radio and read my older sister's Teen magazines. These Teen magazines are from 1975, around the time we were doing this.

Baby Shoe Bank

There was a bank something like this one in our house when we were kids. I think it belonged to my younger brother and I think he got it from Sunday School.

Valentines

I got valentines like some of these when I was in elementary school. I wonder did every school do what our school did? We would make a valentine holder out of a tissue box or 2 paper plates, decorate them with cardboard hearts and other trimmings then put them on our desks. On Valentine's Day we would go around the classroom and deliver valentine's to our classmates. In the afternoon we would have a party with chips and drinks and open our valentine holders.

The valentine cards that I specifically remember are the 2nd from the top right in the first picture, the parachute boy in the 2nd picture and the 2 girl cards on the ends of the 2nd row from the top in the 3rd picture.

Shell Jewelry Box

My older sister had a jewlery box similar to this. It was glittery with shells stuck to it. Of course I thought it was beautiful and wanted one just like it.

Butterfly Frame

My aunt gave me a plastic butterfly picture frame very similar to this one when I was in grade 8. You can see it in my birthday photo.

Queen Badge

I vaguely remember Mom having a badge like this one. It may have been one of Queen Elizabeth II and not her parents, though, but it looked a lot like this.

Mushroom Salt & Pepper Set

Mom had a set of salt & pepper shakers like this set, cute mushrooms.

Luggage

My 2 older sisters had luggage sets like these, as you can see in the photo (they're going away to university and my parents took a photo of all of us out on the front bridge/step with our luggage when we went away to university).

Pierrot Poster

Pierrot was popular when I was in high school and 1st & 2nd year university. I probably had a stationery set or poster with this Pierrot picture on it.

Electric Razor

I was in junior high or high school when my older sister gave me and my sister electric razors for Christmas. They were just like this except they were purple and came in a purple case. I had it for years and years.

Pick Up Sticks

I doubt this game is popular today, I bet most kids have never heard of it. I can't remember if we had plastic or wooden pick up sticks and I don't remember the type of container they came in. But I remember playing it at the kitchen table.

Salt & Pepper Sets

Another 2 sets of salt & peper that Mom had in her collection. She had over 300 in her collection and a lot of them are available on eBay. I guess a lot of people collected or still do collect salt & pepper sets.

September Girl Figurine

My sister had this figurine for the month she was born. I had one but it wasn't like this. Mine was a glazed, shiny figurine while this one was more of a matte finish. I liked hers better. As you can see in the 2nd photo, some of the petals of the flower are broken off and I think my sister's figurine also had some petals broken off over time.

Bronzed Baby Shoes Bookends

We had bookends just like these. Dad got our baby boots bronzed, I am not sure if he did them himself or sent them away to be done. The bookends were used on our bookcase with our encyclopedias, as you can see in the photo. The photo is of my youngest brother on his first day of kindergarten, I think that was 1974.

Sears Catalogue

Ah the beautiful fashions of the 70's! The Sear's catalogue was a popular book in our house.

Fishing Creel

My father owned a wicker creel like this one, as you can see in the photo. In the photo are my father, older brother and sister. As you can see they did not get very big fish! I guess this photo was taken in the mid 70's.

Horse Bottle

I remember my father or older brother having a bottle of aftershave shaped like a horse's head, like this.

Boat Salt & Pepper

Another cute salt & pepper set from Mom's collection. Another one I forgot about until I saw it in one of our old pictures.

Paint By Number

I had a paint by number set like this but mine wasn't painted this well. I was never artistic.

Flicker Razor

I'm not sure if they still make these. I remember that my oldest sister used one when I was a child. I remember seeing it in the bathroom and thinking that I was going to use one like it when I got older, I thought it was a cute razor. I never did own one though.

Rooster Salt & Pepper Set

Another salt & pepper set from Mom's collection. A rooster on a bell with the small glass salt & pepper shakers hanging on the sides.

Cat on Shoe

I vaguely remember a figurine like this. Was it a toothpick holder? Not sure, I think my aunt had it.

Stationery

Boxed stationery was a very popular gift when I was a teenager. I wrote to several penpals and friends so it was a gift I enjoyed getting. I had a set just like this.

Cats Salt & Pepper Set

Another salt and pepper set from Mom's collection. I had forgotten all about them until I saw them on eBay while looking for other things. They looked familiar but I wasn't 100% sure we had them until I saw them in one of our old photos.

Pencil Sharpener

Not only were these a common sight in classrooms when I was growing up, we also had one in our "nook" at home. I remember when Dad installed it, I thought it was great, especially since before that I once had the shame of going to school with a pencil that had been sharpened with a paring knife.

Oranges in Crate Salt & Pepper Set

Mom collected salt & pepper sets, I am sure she had a set like this.

Baby Book

My 2 older sisters, older brother and I had baby books like this. I loved looking through it at what Mom had written in it. She had a lock of my hair from my first haircut, a drawing I had drawn when I was 3 and many photos.

Lettuce Crisper

We had a lettuce crisper just like this one for our iceberg lettuce (the only lettuce I knew of when I was growing up). It had a spike for the bottom that you would impale your lettuce on to keep it crisp. I guess it worked since we always used it.

Shaving Brush

My father had a shaving brush a lot like this one. Do men use shaving brushes these days?

Drinking Bird

One of my aunts had a drinking bird like this on her kitchen windowsill. I remember being fascinated by it and wondering how it worked. It would bob up and down for ages.

Elsie the Cow

I don't remember this stuffed toy but my older sister does. It was hers and you can see it in her crib in the photo. Apparently it came in different colours and the head was plastic. Looks a little creepy to me, sis!

Fire Alarm

We had one of these in the kitchen for a short while. It didn't detect smoke, but rather heat and I remember Dad testing it by holding a match up to it. I think he decided that it didn't work well enough so he took it down. Basically the house would have to be engulfed in flames before it would go off. The alarm was quite loud though, a buzzer that would wake the dead.

Strawberry Salt & Pepper Set

Mom had a huge collection of salt & pepper sets and this was one set she owned. It was never used, just kept on the shelves with the rest.
